Japan: Endless Discovery Event at The Grove

To show gratitude for all the support Japan received after the 2011 East Japan earthquake and tsunami one year ago, the Japan Consulate presented this all day event at The Grove, a popular outdoor shopping center in Los Angeles.  The event showcased Japanese food, tourism, traditional culture and technology at various booths throughout The Grove.  Some of the highlights included a Kimono Show, Tea Ceremony, a signing by Simone Legno, creator of the Tokidoki brand, and
a Japanese Fashion show presented by Bubble Punch!

Rune Boutique World Debut Party

On December 9, 2011, I had the pleasure of being a part of the Rune Boutique World Debut Party at Royal/T Café, a 10,000 sq ft space in Culver City, CA!  Rune Boutique represents a collaboration of fashion designer and creative director, Sebastian Masuda of 6%Dokidoki and the late illustrator, Rune Naito who is considered to be the father of Japan’s Kawaii movement.  Celebrating Japanese pop culture and the roots of Kawaii, this event also showcased art, fashion and music that have been influenced by the Kawaii lifestyle.
This amazing event was presented in association with the Japanese Consulate, Japan Foundation LA and the dynamic duo of Bubble Punch, event planners who are famous for organizing creative events around LA.  Highlights of the night included a 6%Dokidoki fashion show, a costume contest themed by Rune Naito’s original artwork, and a Live performance by Japanese pop artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.  I volunteered to be on staff to help meet & greet guests and maintain crowd control, as there was an estimated 3,000 guests who showed up for this huge event!
